Flowers in Spring

The Shenk Family spent the majority of last weekend working outside. It finally felt like spring in Utah! James got some new sandals to wear with his shorts and was ready to lend us a hand... with the hose.

Progress was made on the backyard, but it's not photo-ready just yet. Instead, you can see the flower bed that Jill created all by herself!
It has a bit of a purple theme at the moment...

Weekend Warriors

The Shenk Family has spent the last few weekends (and some weeknights) trying to tame our backyard. We have some new garden beds that need planting, some new patio furniture to enjoy, and we'll hopefully finish laying our new flagstone path this weekend. (Pictures to come soon...)

James has enjoyed getting in on the action, but, as you can see, is only helpful when it comes to pushing the wheelbarrow, which is the only item in the backyard with the one thing guaranteed to catch his attention--- a wheel!

Oh Lasagna, how do I love thee...

GrandPoppa Pelt is a fantastic cook and his lasagna is world-famous (at least it is in my world)! Living in Utah has significantly reduced the number of times we get to enjoy this spectacular dish, and as such, I requested the recipe from him so that I could attempt to make it for us. The first effort was tasty, but there was definitely room for improvement, however, GrandPoppa Pelt was suitably impressed enough at my pathetic effort to reward me with my very own lasagna pan! Yay!
So, I bravely decided to have another go, and even braver yet, I offered to share it with our neighbors/friends next door... or are they the brave ones for agreeing to eat it? Either way, we all had dinner together and, after some wine and prompting, they said it was delicious. I love it when my friends play along.
Here it is in its own pan. Isn't it pretty?

Mirai watches as James shovels it in.

James takes a walk!

Well, ladies and gentlemen, he's done it! James finally let go of our hands and took off on his own. It was very exciting for us and we're so thrilled to watch him grow and learn. Plus, we actually remembered to video this exciting event so you can see it too!

Easter

Easter is a low-key holiday at the Shenk house. James got a cool set of blocks this year from Mom & Dad and the basket of goodies came from the Florida Easter Bunny (aka Mimi Shenk). We sat James in the same spot on the couch to check out his basket and realized how far he has come in one year.
