A Thanksgiving Day Miracle

I have never been a fan of running for fun. I'll run for my life, if necessary, but I never really got the appeal of just running. Mostly, I still don't. I do, however, love a challenge and so I challenged myself to begin running and train for a 5K. On Thanksgiving Day of 2013, I ran (and finished) my first 5K! I actually got up early on a holiday and went out into the 20-degree weather to run voluntarily. Many of you may need to read that sentence again, but it's true! I have pictures and witnesses since Chris and James were nice enough to go out and cheer me on. I am as slow as molasses in winter but I still set a personal best time that morning and for that, I am very proud. Plus, I ate a lot of food later pretty guilt-free. Starting the day with exercise gives you a free eating pass for the rest of the day, right?
Smiling because I haven't run yet and wearing the stylish
"pilgrim" shirt they gave me.
My first racing number.
There's a little arrow above my head.
We had Thanksgiving Dinner at our house this year and included a friend of Chris's from work that doesn't have any family here. It was a nice, low-key day of eating and watching football. We hope you all enjoyed a lovely Thanksgiving as well.

It's Batman!

Now that it's almost Christmas, I suppose I should post our Halloween pictures. Guess I'm just a little behind…
This year, James has developed an interest in superheroes and he asked if he could be Batman for Halloween. Once he makes up his mind about his costume, he really doesn't waver from that. It's a done deal. That's super helpful because I don't have to wait until the last minute to get a costume and once I get one, I don't have to worry he's going to change his mind 3 days before Halloween. Whew! The weather was pretty nice here this year and so we were able to enjoy trick-or-treating around the neighborhood early and then hand out candy once we got home. We were very proud of how well James used his manners, always saying "thank you" and then shouting "Happy Halloween!" as he ran down the driveway so excited to tell us what candy he had just received. The best part, however, was that every time they answered the door for him, they would say, "Oh, it's Batman!" or something like that, and at one point James comes to me and says, "Mom, can you believe it?! They think I'm the real Batman!! They don't know I'm just James!" Hands down, the greatest part of Halloween this year. Love him!!

"Are you really going to make me go out dressed as Underdog?"
James started singing into the scooper. Hilarious!

In-laws and an Anniversary

While James and I were in San Francisco, Chris welcomed his parents, Richard & Cindy, back to Utah.  They got to enjoy a couple days of fun with their son alone before James and I returned and it was all about the grandkid. We all enjoy their visits, but James especially loves spending time with his Mimi and Papa!

Chris took his parents off-roading in the mountains to enjoy the
view and the lovely fall colors
Not a bad view...
Richard and Cindy took turns trying out my bike while Chris was making some repairs on it. You can't help but smile when you're on that fun, lime green cruiser. :)

Papa and James share some Cheerios
Chutes and Ladders, fun for all ages!
James loves to do crafts so I always try to pick up a little project for him to do with R & C when they are in town. Sometimes he keeps them, sometimes they do. Little memories…

The following weekend was our ninth wedding anniversary and we celebrated with a night away in a cabin at Sundance Resort (http://www.sundanceresort.com). We have done that for a couple other anniversaries and we love it. Their restaurant, The Tree Room (http://www.sundanceresort.com/dine/tree_room.html), is our favorite place to eat. The food is amazing and the atmosphere is just cozy and romantic and lovely. Sunday morning, we had a delicious brunch at the Foundry Grill (http://www.sundanceresort.com/dine/foundry_grill.html) that requires wearing stretchy pants. So yummy!

Sitting on the porch at our cabin. Happy Anniversary to us!
